The process of life is a journey of many ups and downs; rights and lefts; yes and no. On this journey we will find ourselves in places where we never thought we would be. Sometimes our experiences are created in the mind through unusual experiences and situations we may find ourselves in, as a result of the choices we make. Whether grand or poor, we must live with these choices and the results that they yield. On the other hand, we may find ourselves in situations that simply come upon us, seemingly by a way in which we cannot even begin to explain how we ended up in that certain situation. It could be a situation having to do with the crumbling of something that you have built, such as a business. Or maybe the decline in your health in some way, shape or form. Through these experiences we will fall and feel as thought tomorrow will be just as cloudy as the length of time it took for the commodity to become destroyed. Nonetheless, we strive and work to find a way through "it;" Whatever "it" may be. We live in a world in which we are told what is accepted or “cool.” With all of the exposure to the highlights of other people’s lives through social media, the internet, and television we are constantly being pulled in directions that are not of our own choosing. We see a person with all of our deepest desires and watch people being revered and labeled as “celebrities” and “stars-” So many people try to “be like that.” We see our neighbor’s grass cut perfectly, with every blade length the same as the last, so we perceive it as perfect and work to make ours “look like that.” All we really have in life is perception and choice. Your neighbor’s lawn looked perfect until you chose to touch it. In that moment you realized that, unlike yours, it was actually artificial. There is no need to water that grass- it cannot grow. Sometimes in life the grass is greener on the other side because it is fake. The grass is greener right here. When I was first starting out on Instagram, I saw a photograph of a person wearing a t-shirt that said “Prayer Works”. I happen to know from experience that prayer does work, and so I responded something along the lines of Amen, or Yes It Does! And then I heard back from the creator of the t-shirt, and we arranged to meet so that I could post about her wonderful work in my blog. For those people who know me and have read my blog, I write about wonderful people and places and things – a lifestyle blog, but one that focuses on having an abundant life in whatever form that abundance arrives. I write about thrift stores and events, art and artists, small businesses, designers, fashion, food and life. If it brings abundance, if it is encouraging and uplifting, I’ll write about it, and someone making t-shirts that say Prayer Works is definitely someone I want to write about. If you’re reading this blog, chances are you know that Be The Difference Clothing, or BTDLLC, makes t-shirts and socks and onesies for the little ones that have inspirational and uplifting, encouraging sayings on them. I’d be attracted to the sayings all by themselves, but there is an artistry behind the creation of the clothing that goes much deeper than a happy quote. The designs are made to help us think and feel the impact of the words written on them, and to help encourage us to have the courage to believe that we can make a difference in our own lives, with others, and in the world. Prayer Works is not just a nice thing to say – Prayer really does work, and by praying we become a part of a greater work in the world. The act of praying is an act of intercession – we are actively taking part in the situation we are praying about. Scripture tells us that when we don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit helps us (Romans 8:26). The seemingly simple act of praying, or of trying to pray, calls on the most powerful force in existence to help us pray and have an impact on the situation we are praying about. Prayer does not have to be done in any particular form. Just thinking about a person or a situation and asking for guidance or wisdom or the ability to do those things we may feel we cannot – to forgive, to love, to not be afraid, to find peace in a storm – that is a prayer. Instead of calling everyone we know to ask for advice, or suffering sleepless nights and anxiety – things I used to do before I was born again – we can pray, and be still, and in that stillness find the answer sometimes or sometimes just the next step, or sometimes just the ability to trust and wait and know that though things may be confusing or frightening or hitting every trigger we have, we can find peace and rest and the strength to let go and let God. The future: Tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, next time. Course Description: Call me Baby. I will be your professor for the next few years. I will teach you how to do things that you had no idea you were capable of doing. In this course, we will learn much from one another and create a bright future for all of those who are involved in this process; as long as you follow this syllabus and recognize that there are mutual benefits. I've barely had a chance to consume this world and it’s intricacies I've barely had a chance to breathe But I woke up today. Ready to work hard for another day. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes? Well, here is a first look. (Just a little taste) THE SET UP For example, an event can be opened to the public at 11am. Guess what, vendors are usually at the venue 3-4 hours earlier. Some booth spots are first come first serve, while others are reserved. Even if a booth is reserved, a vendor must consider getting to the venue early just in case they might want to switch spots (to get optimal customer traffic) or be unknowingly switched due to a fellow vendor complaint to the promoter (who would rather switch than argue) or lack of physical help to off-load their merchandise. Some vendors need 2 hours to set up, while others need 1 hour. But WAIT just when you think your booth is great here comes a fellow vendor selling similar merchandise and the promoter puts you 1-2 booths away. Well, thank you event planner(s), the selling opportunity has been cut in half. THE NIGHTMARE So, a vendor may decide to book an event based on a special holiday, a desire to support a cause, did research and everything meets their requirements, or would like to try a new area or town. Everything seems right but wait the promoter forgets to advertise. A seasoned vendor knows if potential constomers do not show by a certain hour..... IT'S A BUST! Some vendors will request a refund while others chuck it up to being a bad day. THE PROMOTER The promoter can either make or break a vendors day. Some are honest and open about the possibility of sales. Others just want to make money. Beware of the fast talking promoter. The one who talks about where they promoted, how much was spent to promote, loves your product BUT falls short and doesn't buy. So short that no potential customers show up, the area has no signage, will not buy your product (which really means they could care less about you and more about using your rent to pay their bills). THE CUSTOMER A vendor depends on a customer for a few reasons: 1. To help offset the cost of the table 2. To communicate why/how their product is worthy of their purchase 3. Just feels good knowing that someone loves your craft 4. Continue creating whatever it is they provide Here is a perfect example of how a beautiful day can turn into a long and dragged out. 1. The person who looks you in the face and ignores even with a simple hello 2. The person who walks by as if you're harassing them (well you did come to a craft fair, festival or market right?) 3. The person who raves about how great your product is but still does not buy 4. Sorry I do not have money. (Again, you did come to a craft fair, festival or market right?) OVERALL The vendor life is exciting, fun and adventurous. You meet and make great friends. Like anything, it is a full time business for some, hobby for others and even a second job for those who want to transition into entrepreneurship. If you are a customer, continue to support vendors. [1] It can also be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion, and affection—"the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another". [2] It may also describe compassionate and affectionate actions towards other humans, one's self or animals. [3] Here is what we believe: The t-shirt above was designed with love in mind.
